It's Been A Little While

So, my hard drive crashed on September 26 I think, and I've been having extremely shitty luck with the whole situation ever since. My stepdad out in Ontario had an extra system sitting around, and when I asked for advice on the broken one I already had, he sent me out the spare. Awesome, right? Well, yeah, it would be extremely awesome, except that I think someone between there and here a clumbsy postie must've dropped it or something because the silly bastard won't power up for me. Son of a bitch. It's been a pretty fucking boring few weeks. I finally managed to get my old system back up but I think I lost of bunch of shit on my old hard drive that I really really didn't want to lose, so that really blows. And so that's why it's been a while since my last post!

Knight Inlet Resort

This is fucking crazy, maybe not for a lot of people I guess, but I know someone who worked there, and was there working when this shit went down. Fucking crazy!

My Wife And I Are Moving

That's right. Moving. You know, moving is a real pain in the ass. But you know what's even more of a pain in the ass than moving? Painting almost the entire fucking place before you can start the actual moving. It'll be well worth the effort, don't get me wrong, but fuuuucck!!! Enough already!! I just want it to be fucking done. Whoever painted this place before we got there was a total fuck knob who obviously had NO idea what he/she/it/they were doing, and had no business doing it — but did it anyways. The entire house (inside and out) was this horrible tobacco-stain shade of yellow. So fucking gross. It honestly doesn't look half as bad on the outside of the house as it did on the inside, but even the outside is going to be repainted (not by us!) next month. Swell!

Just since it's been a while since I've written much, it may still be a while because we're not quite done painting yet... and then we have to move in. But after all that shit, I'll be all regular and full of fiber on here again. I'm so excited about I even used a shit anology, did you even catch that? Ha! I'm starting to wonder if all the paint fumes are fucking with my shit. Anyways, I didn't die or anything, just busy as fuck. Be back soon!

If I remember later I'll explain in great detail why we're moving hahaha.

Epic Weekend In Vancouver

So my wife and I just got home last night from one of the most epic weekends I think we've had to date. We were in Vancouver, BC from Friday, May 25th til Monday, the 28th. On Friday we went to YukYuk's and saw Trevor Boris, on Saturday we went to BC Place and saw Roger Waters "The Wall", and then on Sunday night we went to the PNE Amphitheatre and saw Tenacious D. BAM!! Fucking amazing. This was the second installment of our honeymoon, the first being that sweet trip we took to Tofino/Ucluelet a month ago.

Anyhow, if The Wall or Tenacious D are coming towards where you live, or anywhere in the near vicinity of your general locale, do yourself a huge favor and go see that shit! My only complaint/grievance is that the drunkard working at the Tenacious D merch tent gave me the wrong size shirt.. however I could use a bit of shrinking so it will most likely fit me at some point lol. Just make sure you YELL your shirt size at the guy so he gets it right.

Our Tofino and Ucluelet Honeymoon

So as I was saying, I just got married on April 20th - pun intended and on the 22nd we went down island for our honeymoon. We stayed in Ucluelet but we spent a lot of time in Tofino. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Vancouver Island, Tofino KICKS ASS. This is one of the furthest western points in Canada; next stop China. These are the best beaches on the entire island.. bigtime surfing town with a shit ton of culture and huge fucking trees everywhere. We did so much cool shit while we were there, but here's a couple things I really want to tell you about:

LONG BEACH RADIO is an amazing radio station. For the most part, I can't stand the radio, but we tuned in to check the weather and it just stayed on the whole time. They broadcast online, and you should check it out.

TOFINO BREWING COMPANY is brand new, but god damn do they ever make a good beer!! Seriously. I had a glass of IPA at a restaurant called ‘Shelter' and then we drove straight to the brewery and I bought some blonde. Check them out too.

Get a big bag, get into your car, and go the fuck to Tofino!!!

Blog Intro

Welcome to my silly little blog. Allow me to explain myself a little bit and set the tone for the nonsense I’ll be getting on with from here on in. My name is Shane, I’m 29 years old as I write this. I’m very Canadian, but not because I say "eh" a lot and like bacon and maple syrup. The white blood in my family has been here since the late 1600s (no shit), and the Mi’kmac blood in us has been here since.. well, before the white people. I was born in Newfoundland, and I grew up in BC, specifically Vancouver Island. However when I was 18, I moved to Alberta for a few months and then proceeded to Ontario for the next almost 9 years &emdash; I’d never been there before, so I didn’t know the difference &emdash; what a fucking mistake that was. I did get to see a lot of good bands while I was there that I never would’ve gotten to see living on the island, so that was a plus. But by 2009, I’d had more than enough of living somewhere I absolutely hated, so I came back out west, and that brings us about up to speed.

As for the name and the forthcoming content of this blog, here’s a little more unimportant information about myself. I started playing guitar when I was three years old, and drums shortly afterwards the same year. For as far back as I can remember, music has always been the big number one. I was also an extremely hyperactive ADHD nightmare of a child, something I still enjoy to this very day. My Dad managed to get me on Ritalin for a couple of days before my Mom found out and put an abrupt stop to it (thank fucking God!!), but during those few days I found out that I could kind of draw. I think I was four, or almost four. So I’ve been really into music and visual art for a really, really long time.

I was dragged through the public school system, as are most people, and while I was there I also learned that I really enjoyed playing with the English language &emdash; writing seemed to come very natural to me, it’s never really seemed too much like work for me to sit down and write something. I even managed to weasel my way into a few editions of BC Musician Magazine last year. When the whole idea of starting a blog came about, it just made me feel like such a moron that I hadn’t gotten into it earlier. My older brother does computer related stuff for a living, so when he offered to help me get the ball rolling I was pretty stoked. See how retarded that sounds? "Does computer related stuff for a living." That’s what you’re all in for here, folks.

Oh yeah, and my band.. I’ve been in a bunch of bands over the last nineteen years, but the band I’m in right now is by far my favorite one yet. I do vocals for a death metal band called Deadkind. We’re on Facebook and MySpace, of course. We put out our first EP in April 2011, and we’ve moved a fair amount of CDs on our own, but the reality of it is that almost nobody buys CDs anymore. I figured I might as well post the whole album on YouTube, so if you’re curious or you actually like death metal, you can have a listen to it here.

In general, I enjoy most things that are considered to be "counter culture," I like tattoos, extreme styles of (usually underground/independent) music, board sports.. being from Vancouver Island, I essentially grew up in a forest, so I’m pretty stoked on camping and outdoors stuff too. My fiancée and I love checking out different spots all over the island, so you can expect to see some stuff about where I live too. It’s fucking gorgeous out here, and you have every right to be jealous - they don’t call the island "God’s Country" just because it sounds cool.

I guess that’s about enough semi-personal shit about me. I essentially plan on posting stuff in regards to music and visual art, and I am absolutely willing to review almost any kind of music or anything else that you’d like. For the most part I can sit through just about anything, but keep in mind that my music of choice is punk rock and onwards into death metal, technical death metal, etc.. I can’t fucking stand most electronic music (sorry lol), but I show respect where respect is due. If you feel the need to have me review electronic music, please don’t send me something that isn’t 100% original &emdash; I’m not going to review how well somebody can play other people’s music. I don’t mean to offend anybody here, but that’s just the way it is.

So there you have it! I am a self proclaimed counter culture nerd, and I’m blogging about it. Swell! If you like my stuff, tell your friends to check it out too. Remember, any art or music or anything you think I might like, I’ll check it out if you send me a link. If I like it, I’ll repost it so everyone can check it out too. But for now, it’s time for me to roll one, and I suggest perhaps you do the same.
